If my wife hadn’t shrunk my favourite woolly hat and hadn’t felt so guilty that we drove all the way to Rotholz’s pop-up shop on the other side of Berlin in the hope of finding an adequate replacement (which I did find — I’ll still wear the old one; it’ll stretch by the time winter comes around), and if all this hadn’t happened on this wonderful, sunny summer’s Sunday, then I would have missed the opportunity to ask Claire to pose for me — and that doesn’t bear thinking about!
