The Teufelsberg is an artificial hill in the middle of Berlin. It is made up of the rubble that was cleared out of the heavily bombed city after the war. It is the highest point in Berlin and lies in the former British sector. The British and the Americans built a listening post on the top so they could intercept messages far into the eastern sectors. After the wall came down the occupying powers withdrew and the numerous investment projects have failed leaving the former listening facility in the hands of artists and musicians. A true metamorphosis!

Meet a good friend of mine…..
….which all depends on your point of view of course!
I’d like to credit whoever was responsible for these works of art, but I don’t unfortunately know who created them. But if you happen to be in the area they can be found here Graffiti
Zenza Bronica ETRS Zenzanon f1:2.8 75mm Kodak Portra 400 Epson Perfection V500Fancy going out in Berlin of an evening and meeting up the English patron saint St. George!
The first shot is so secret I’m not telling you where it was taken, although many of you will easily guess…..
The second shot is rather special because …. well after following Phil Kneen’s blog rather closely for sometime, I decided to branch out into medium format analogue photography myself. I am now proud owner of a Yashica MAT 124 G (used for the second picture) and a Zenza Bronica ETRS. Furthermore I actually developed and scanned the film myself, there seems to be no end to this photography lark!
There’s some more of my analogue stuff here at 500px
P.S. The first shot was taken with my trusty Fuji X100, so I’m not giving up on digital just yet 😉
…. and the sounds I hear! Seriously though, it is a little spooky especially when you see the light streams. Just one car drove past while I was taking the shot (the main two horizontal stripes at the bottom of the picture) and there was no one else around, so I’ve absolutely no idea where the others came from.
Bit of a weak week this week, sorry!
I sneaked some time to myself and went to the Berlinische Gallery to see “THE SHUTTERED SOCIETY” – ART PHOTOGRAPHY IN THE GDR 1949-1989
If you happen to be in Berlin until the end of January it’s well worth a visit:

P.S. It’s cheating I know, but I think it looks good anyway! 😉
or even the night of the palaces. This is an annual “cultural feast” during which the Sanssouci Park opens its gates to visitors well into the night. The palaces are ablaze with light and classical music resounds from every corner, this is rounded off with a fantastic firework display at midnight.
We managed to sneak on the eve of the occasion while all was quiet for a quick nosey.
This is a picture of the little people with a bridge covered in barrier tape ….
This is what I do for a living ….. I get to to travel to far-flung places and look at lots of different types of birds…….?!
I’ll be turning 40 in the next few weeks, so I’m posting this now to avoid being called a “dirty old so and so” later!
Thanks to the two lovely Czech girls for taking the time to pose at the AERO in Friedrichshafen.
