I thought I might have a competition this week. I was, as always searching for a bit of inspiration for this week’s picture, when “former” friends of mine took it upon themselves to “inspire” me with their interpretation of a duet or in this case a double duet. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank them profusely for their wonderful effort. Votes on a postcard to ….. etc.
Here in Germany they have a wonderful tradition for the first school day. The children have to go into school on a Saturday where they are able to meet their new school mates and receive a “Schultüte” (translates as “First-Day-of School-cornet” apparently). The “Schultüte” is normally filled with stationary and more importantly lots of sweets.
This was Johanna’s big day, although I fear that she had to share some of her goodies with her mother.

It’s 21 years ago this Spring since I sat my A-levels and these ladies 20 years my junior will be studying hard as I write to make sure they get the grade for Uni. I certainly don’t envy them in the slightest.
Without wanting to sound like the pompous “old git” that I really am, I’d like to say to them “make the most of it all and above all enjoy it!”, I know I did (and do).
The picture below gives an idea how the scene my have looked in the late 1980’s or early 1990’s.
